Expert(专家) say that students usually need eight to ten hours’ sleep at night, but most Chinese students do not get enough sleep. Some Chinese parents are usually glad to see their children studying late. They will think their children work very hard, but not all parents are happy about this. Once a mother told us that every morning her 10-year-old boy put up one finger (手指)with his eyes still closed, begging(请求) for one more minute to sleep. Like thousands of students “ early birds” in China, he has to get up before six every morning.

A report shows that without a good night’s sleep, students seem to be weaker (虚弱)than they should be. Many students have fallen asleep during class at one time or another. Too much homework is not the only reason why students stay up late. Some watch TV or play the computer games late into the night.

Experts have ever said that the students should develop good study habits. So some clever students never study last, they are able to work well in class.

Here is some advice on listening. We hope it can help you in one way or other.

Relax yourself.

Before you start to listen to something, you need to relax. Don't get nervous or excited. This will help you with your listening.

Listen carefully to the first sentence.

The first sentence tells a lot about the whole passage *. For example, if at the very beginning, you hear "Many shops in many parts of China have decided to take away all kinds of Japanese goods * off their shelves, but some people say it's not a good idea.", you know you will hear a piece of news, not a children's story, or a science report.

Think when you're listening .

When you're listening, try to do some thinking. For example, you can think of the following questions: What happened? When, where and how? What was the result and what does the speaker want to tell us? This way, you may understand the passage better.

Listen for important facts.

It's important for you to remember some important facts. For example, if the passage is a science report, you should try to remember its findings and how the scientists got their results.

Don't think about one or two words for too long.

You may hear some words that you don't know, but don't spend too much time on them. Very often, you'11 find out what they mean later when you go on with the listening. But you can remember some words or sentences that you think are important, and you can use them when you're answering the questions.

( )56. This whole passage is mainly about________.

A. advice on thinking       B. advice on finding the facts

C. advice on listening       D. advice on remembering words

(   )57.When you hear some words that you don’t know, what should you do?

A. Spend much time on them. B. Don’t spend too much time on them.

C. Write them down.           D. Remember them

( )58. It's better for you to keep________ when you begin to have a listening exam.

A. excited B. relaxed C. nervous    D. worried

( )59. The sentence "Many shops in many parts of China have decided to take away all kinds of Japanese goods off their shelves.” seems to be______.

A. the first sentence of a piece of news

B. a piece of advice on reading

C. the end of a piece of news

D. a piece of advice on speaking

( )60. Who is the passage the most helpful to?

Mobile phones are everywhere and sometimes they can be very annoying.

Most public places have mobile phone rules. So try to keep your phone ringer(手机铃声) as low as possible or put it on vibration mode(震动模式) in public. A good time to leave your phone at home would be at school or when visiting a hospital.

If you need to make or take a call while in a meeting or at a restaurant or a theater, leave the room. If you are waiting for a call, get a seat near the door to minimize the interruption(减少干扰). It is polite to let others know that in the beginning. When you get a call and you are with friends, keep the call short and speak quietly. A good way to make sure that people don’t interrupt you and others is to tell your friends when it’s a good time to call.
