What Is Your Hobby

A

My hobby is collecting stones. I started collecting them when I was eight. We lived in a town by the sea, and I found lots of different stones on the beach.

I clean and polish(磨光,擦亮) them, and then I find out what kind of stones they are. I’ve got lots of books about geology(地质学). I display the stones on shelves, each a label saying what kind of stone it is, and when and where I found it. Altogether, I’ve got 250 stones in my collection.

It’s a good hobby because you don’t have to spend money. You only need to buy the books and ask someone to build some shelves!

B

In my spare time, I paint designs on T-shirts. I got the idea two years ago for my brother’s birthday present. The shop wanted £20 for a special design on a T-shirt. I bought a white cotton T-shirt for £6 and some paints, and I painted a lion on the front. My brother loved it!

Painting T-shirts is great fun. You needn’t be a great artist, you can just paint shapes and lines. The T-shirts are the most expensive part of my hobby. You have to use special fabric(织物,组织) paints—but they last a long time, so they’re not really expensive—and you need to buy good quality brushes.

I love my hobby because you can make T-shirts that no one else has got. I give a lot of them away as presents to my family and friends. Sometimes, I sell them. Since I started, I’ve made about 60 T-shirts and each one is different.
