Africa is now facing many problems. People are suffering(遭受) from a shortage(短缺) of food. They do not have enough health care. Deserts (沙漠) are spreading (扩大) in many places.
In Africa millions of people starved (饿) to death, and two thirds of them were children. Harry Belafonte, a famous singer in America, felt sad when he saw a film about the starving people in Africa. He said to himself, "I should do something to help them. What can I do?" He thought of a plan to gather the stars from the music world and make a special record. The money from the record would help the starving people in Africa. Those famous singers and musicians were always very busy. "How can you gather them?" everyone said to Belafonte. But they were willing to come to the event(活动) from all over the country.
Then who wrote the words and music for the record?
During the Christmas holidays in 1984, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie were writing the words and music for the record at Jackson' s home in Los Angeles. "We have to be the voice," Stevie Wonere said," to help those people that have lost their future. "A sign was put at the door of the studio: "Please cheek your ego (自我) at the door!"
At 10 P.M. they began their work. They finally finished recording at 8 A.M. that morning. Just at that moment Diana Ross sat down with tears in her eyes and said, "I just don' t want this to end!"
On April 5, more than 800 radio stations all over the world played "We Are The World" at the same time.

This year some twenty-three hundred teenagers from all over the world will spend about ten months in US homes. They will attend US schools, meet US teenagers, and form impressions of the real American teenagers. American teenagers will go to other countries to learn new languages and gain a new understanding of the rest of the world.
Fred, nineteen, spent last year in Germany with George's family. In turn, George's son, Mike, spent a year in Fred's home in America.
Fred, knew little German when he arrived, but after two month's study, the language began to come to him. School was completely different from what he had expected-much harder. They took fourteen subjects instead of the six that are usual in the United States.
"Back home, you pick up some friends in a car and go out and have a good time.In Germany, you walk, but you soon learn to like it."
At the same time, in America, Mike, a friendly German boy, was also forming his idea."I suppose I should criticize(批评) American schools, " he says. "it is far too easy by our level. But I have to say that I like it very much. In Germany we do nothing but study. Here we take part in many outside activities. I think that maybe your schools are better in training for citizens(市民). There ought to be some middle ground between the two."

There was a time when, if a lady got onto a crowded bus or train, a gentleman would immediately stand up and offer her his seat. No more, though. Today, a gen-tleman will probably look out of the window, or, if he feels a bit guilty (内疚), hides behind his newspaper. Either way, the lady will have to stand until someone else gets off.
You can't entirely blame (完全责备) men for this change in manners. The days are gone when women could be referred to as the weaker sex. A whole generation (代) of women has grown up demanding equality with men; not just equality in jobs or education, but in social attitudes (态度). Hold a door open for some women and you're likely to get an angry lecture on treating women as inferiors (能力低下的人), unable to open doors for themselves. Take a girl out for a meal and she'll probably insist on paying her share of the bill; though on second thoughts perhaps that's not such a bad idea.
It's no wonder, then, that men have given up some of the gestures of politeness and consideration which they used to show towards women. On the other hand, automatic male (men) politeness is perhaps slowly being replaced by true consi-deration for the needs of women, so that men can see women as equal human beings.
Maybe that's worth standing in the bus or train.
72. The new generation of women wants to be .
A. treated not as the weaker sex B. treated as the weaker sex
C. cared for on buses and trains D. better treated than before
73. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT correct?
A. Some women may get angry if you open the doors for them.
B. Girls don't want you to pay for meal at all.
C. Some women may criticized(批评) you if you show too much politeness to them.
D. A girl may be unhappy if you insist on paying her share of the bill.
74. From this passage, we know that .
A. women need true consideration of their needs and feelings
B. men have given up some politeness they used to show to women
C. women often get angry if you are polite to them
D. women should stand in the bus or train
75. The passage mainly tell us .
A. gentlemen and ladies have equal rights on a bus or train
B. ladies wonder why gentlemen offer their seats to them
C. gentlemen consider politeness to be more important than ladies do
D. the change in manners had taken place between men and women

There's interesting places such as the Summer Palace and the Great Wall. Hope you can come here for a visit. I'm glad you're interested in my school life. We have school every day except on Saturday and Sunday, and we have Chinese, maths and English as our main subjects. Computer science is also my favourite. After class, I like to go for a walk or sit in the seat chatting. At noon and after school I like playing football. I'm said to be a good player. Sometimes I practice playing the piano as my parents tell me to.
Looking forward to your immediate visit.
Yours truly,
Li Ming

W: Hi, Bob, would you like to go swimming this afternoon?
M: I wish I could, but I have to spend the rest of the day in the library. I've to write an 800-word composition which must be handed in on Monday morning.
W: Oh, is that for Mr Smith's class?
M: Yes, I've to study a long poem. My teacher asked me to readit in class next week.
W: That's hard.
M: And besides, I also have to study a lot for maths and history. I don't know how I'm going to do it all.
W: You know, Bob. I've been doing well in maths, so I'll be happy to help you.
M: Oh, that will be great, Mary.
W: If you like, we can start right after I come back from swimming.

W: Hi, Li Ming, where did you go for your holiday?
M: I went to Hainan Island for a week.
W: Hainan Island, wonderful! What have you done there?
M: We sometimes went hiking in the mountains and sometimes spent the days by the sea swimming.
W: What's the weather like there?
M: Well, the weather in Hainan Island is warmer and wetter than in other places of China. This is because Hainan Island is in the southern part of the country and the wind often comes from the warm seas. The wind picks up the water from the sea. When this wind hits the mountains of Hainan Island, the air rises and the rain falls.
W: I wish someday I could go there for a visit too.

Now, I'd like to talk about the shops in Britain first. Most shops in Britain open at 9:00 a.m.and close at 5:00 or 5:30 in the afternoon. Small shops usually close an hour after lunch time. On one or two days a week, usually Thursday or Friday, some large food shopos stay open until 8:00 in the evening. Nearly all shops are closed on Sundays. Newspaper shops are open in the morning and sell candies and cigarettes as well. But there are many things which are not allowed to sell on Sundays.
