When friends come to visit us in the evening, they spend their time telling us they are in a hurry and looking at their watches. It isn't that our friends are all very busy, it is just that we haven't got a television. People think that we are very strange. "But what do you do in the evening?" they are always asking. The answer is very simple. Both my wife and I have hobbies. We certainly don't spend our evenings staring at the walls. My wife enjoys cooking and painting and often attends evening classes in foreign languages. This is particularly useful as we often go abroad for our holidays. I collect stamps and I'm always busy with my collection. Both of us enjoy listening to the music and playing chess together.
Sometimes there are power cuts and we have no electricity in the house. This does not worry us and we just light candles and carry on with what we were doing before. Our friends, however, are lost-no television!—So they don't know what to do. On such evenings our house is very full for they all come to us. They all have a good time. Instead of sitting in silence in front of the television, everybody talks and plays games.

Joe,
Thank you for your e-mail! I am learning how to ride a bicycle. Two weeks ago, I began to learn it from my father. It was not easy at first. I had a lot of falls, but I never stopped trying. Yesterday my father asked me to go with him by bike. The road was full of people and cars. I was afraid, but I rode it carefully and finally I got home safely. Father sang high praise for me and I was pleased indeed.
Now I am proud to say that I am able to ride myself. Please e-mail me soon!

Children's education is changing very rapidly today. In the past, teachers made children sit still for hours. They made them memorize all sorts of things. In other words, the children had to go on repeating things until they knew them by heart. Today, many teachers wonder if it is possible to make children learn at all. They say you must let children learn and discover things by themselves.
But for some children, school is a kind of prison. They are there only because their parents make them go.They get out of the classroom as soon as the teacher lets them leave. Many of them want to find jobs but the law will not allow them to work until they reach a certain age.And so, they have to stay in school.Often they do not learn anything at all and hate every moment.
