Discovery of Indian Graves a Mixed Blessing

The chance discovery of a seventeenth-century Indian grave site is an exciting find for archeologists but a nuisance for Sally Jones. The burial ground, believed to have been used between 1620 and 1630, was uncovered by construction workers excavating(.挖掘, 开凿) for Jones' new house. It means her house will have to wait.

Peter Carruthers, an archeologist, estimated (估计) the age of the grave site from the condition of the bones, the pattern of burial, and the buried materials uncovered so far. He believes the graves were used by the now-extinct(灭绝的) Neutral tribe, which had dozens of villages scattered throughout southern Ontario.

They were dubbed(把…称为) "the Neutrals" by the French settlers in North America because they managed to stay at peace while other tribes waged wars in the territories around them. Dear Editor,

I am very happy to visit my hometown, which I have been away from for forty years. Everything there has greatly changed. All the villagers live a happy life. Seeing this, I couldn't help appreciating the Party. But to my sorrow, a temple that is near my old living place with a history of more than several hundred years will be pulled down because of the village building. It is a pity that we can't protect a symbol of the past. I think it is necessary for us to keep that site. All the villagers are very worried about it so I write to you in order to arrest people's attention.

                                          Yours sincerely,

M: How much is a round-trip flight leaving in July?

W: The cheapest one we have is $1,215.

M: Do you have any special that would include the hotel and food? I would like to be there about three weeks or a month.

W: Yes. There's a three-week one for about $1,400, which includes the hotel and two meals a day.

M: Thank you very much.

W: Not at all.

W: Eric, what's your hobby?

M: I don't really have one. I suppose that bowling is the closest thing to a hobby that I have.

W: How about the other people in your family?

M: Well, my son likes collecting stamps and my wife has a garden. She spends an hour or so every day working in it. How about you?

W: I have several hobbies but collecting coins is the one I like best. I have coins from almost every country. My favourite one is from China.

M: Have you ever been to China?

W: I want to someday. So far I've been to Canada, Mexico, and Japan. Why don't you have a real hobby? Are you lazy?

M: I like bowling but it' s kind of expensive. The reason I don't have a hobby is that I don't have the time.

W: I understand. Being a traveling businessman is really harder than most people think.

W: You say you like watching and playing baseball, Tom. Don't you play any other outdoor game?

M: No, I don't. But I like watching tennis. I go to Wimbledon every year to watch the championships, and when I can't, I follow the matches on TV. It's exciting. How about you? Do you like watching tennis?

W: Well, yes. But I prefer watching team games.

M: What about indoor games? Do you play any? I used to be quite good at ping-pong.

W: No. I don't play ping-gong or badminton. I don't think I'm the type for indoor games. I like to be out in the open air.

M: But surely you like basketball. It' s a marvelous outdoor game.

W:Yes, it is.I quite like watching it, but I've never wanted to play it.

M:The only indoor game I've never played is cards.Playing cards bores me to death.

This is the first year that Nancy and Harry are going on vacation without any of their children. Their son is away at college this summer, and their two daughters are married. They feel a little lonely without the children, but it's nice, too. They don't have to worry about where the children are or what they're doing.

Both Harry and Nancy are good cooks.Nancy cooks one night, and Harry cooks the next. After they do the dishes, they watch TV or play cards with the couple next door. Sometimes they drive to town to see a movie. They usually stay up late at night.

Nancy and Harry also like to go for long walks together. There's a state park a few miles from their house. They drive to the park and walk in the woods. The air there is fresh, and the trees are pretty. It's good to be away from the heat and the noise of Miami and to be able to forget their offices and shops.
