A
A nurse and her elderly uncle were waiting for a bus at a corner in downtown Chicago. Buses came by, but not the one they wanted. The woman finally half-entered one of the buses and asked the driver if the bus she wanted stopped at that corner.
The driver looked at her but made no answer, so she repeated the question. To her surprise, he then closed the door, on her arm, and drove off.
The woman, her arm stuck in the door, ran alongside the bus, shouting. Passengers said the driver stopped after almost a block only because they, too, were shouting.
When the driver finally did stop and open the door, the woman jumped on the bus to get his bus number. Then he took off again and went another couple of blocks before other shouting passengers persuaded him to stop and let the woman off.
After the driver's bosses at a tax-supported governmental company (CTA) heard of the incident, they looked into it and set his punishment: a five-day suspension(停职) without pay. That struck me as rather light.
But Bill Baxa, the company's public-relations man, said, 'That's a pretty serious punishment."
Five days off work is a serious punishment for dragging a woman alongside a bus by her arm? Baxa said, "Any time you take money away from someone, it is a terrible punishnient. The driver makes $ 14 an hour. Multiply(乘) that by 40 and you can see what he lost."
Yes, that comes to $560, a good sum. But we know that people in the private company are fired for far less serious mistakes every day. If the people who run bus company think that the loss of a week's pay is more than enough, I offer them a sporting suggestion: Give me a bus. Then have their wives stick their arms in the doorway of the bus, and I'll slam the door shut, start the bus quickly and take them for a fast one-block run.
And I'll pay $560 to anyone who is hold enough to try it. Any takers? Mr. Baxa? Anyone?
I didn't think so.
56.The nurse half-entered one of the buses because __________.
A. the bus they wanted didn't stop there
B. she wanted the driver to stop the bus
C. she wanted to get some information from the driver
D. she and her uncle couldn't wait any longer at the corner
57.How many blocks was the woman away from the corner where she waited when the bus driver finally let her off?
A. Almost one block. B. Almost two blocks.
C. Probably three blocks. D. Probably five or six b1ocks.
58. Why did the author offer a sporting suggestion?
A. Because the CTA paid little attention to the incident.
B. Because the bus driver had not been fired.
C. Because he wanted to threaten the CTA people.
D. Because he thought the punishment was unreasonably too light.
59.Which of the following is NOT true?
A. The company is a bus company supported by the government.
B. The writer and Mr. Baxa disagreed with each other on the bus company's decision.
C. The diver finally stopped the bus under the pressure of the passengers.
D. The writer asked the bus company to give him a bus if his suggestion was reused.

Whenever we are involved in (投入) a creative type of activity that is self-rewarding, a feeling overcomes (takes control of) us -a feeling that we can call "flow" . When we are flowing, we lose all sense of time and awareness (意识) of what is happening around us; instead, we feel that everything is going just right.
A rock dancer describes his feeling of flow like this: "If I have enough space, I feel I can radiate an energy into the atmosphere. I can dance for walls. I dance for floors. I become one with the atmosphere." "You are in an extremely happy state to such a point that you don't exist," says a composer, describing how he feels when he "flows". Players of any sport. throughout the world are familiar with the feeling of flow; they enjoy their activity very much, even though they can expect little reward like money. The same holds true for surgeons(外科医生), cave explorers and mountain climbers.
Flow provides a sort of physical sensation along with a changed state of being. One man put it this way: "Your body feels good and awake all over. Your energy is flowing." People who flow feel part of this energy, that is, they are so involved in what they are doing that they do not think of themselves as being separate from their activity. They are flowing along with their enjoyment.
Besides, they concentrate intensely (keep all their attention) on their activity. They do not try to concentrate harder, however, the concentration comes automatically (自动). A chess player compares this concentration to breathing. As they concentrate, these people feel immersed(专心致志) in the action, lost in the action. This sense of time is changed and they skip meals (don't eat) and sleep without noticing their loss. Sizes and spaces also seem changed: successful baseball players see and hit the ball so much better because it seems larger to them. They can even recognize the seas(线缝) on the ball approaching(coming near to) them at 165 kilometers per hour.
60.To experience the feeling of "flow" a person should ________.
A. enjoy an activity
B. want rewards like money or other things
C. feel that his or her hotly is alive
D. feel like a fish swimming in water
61.Many people who experience "flow" say it _________.
A. causes a change in their lives
B. makes them feel separate from their activities
C. is a special stale of mind and body
D. helps them breathe well and do everything successfully
62."Flow" causes people to _________.
A. think deeply B. forget things easily
C. sleep a lot D. forget to eat and sleep
63.The word "put" in the sentence "One man put it this way." means __________.
A. dealt with B. showed C. explained D.made out

When a consumer ( 消费者) find that something he or she bought is faulty or in some other way does not live up to what the producer says for it, the first step is to present the warranty (保单),or arty other records that might help, at the store of buying. In most cases, this action will produce results. However, if it does not, there are various means the consumer may use to gain satisfaction.
A simple arid common method used by many consumers is to complain (投诉) directly to the store manager. In general, the "higher up" the consumer takes his complaint, the faster he or she can expect it to be settled. In such a case, it is usually settled in the consumer's favour, taking it as true that he or she had a just right.
Consumers should complain in person whenever possible, but if they cannot get to the place of buying, it is acceptable to phone or write the complaint in a letter.
Complaining is usually most effective when it is done politely but firmly, and especially when the consumer can show clearly what is wrong with what was bought in question. If this cannot be done, the consumer will succeed best by presenting specific inforination as to what is wrong, rather than by making general statements. For example, "The left speaker does not work at alt and the sound coming out of the right one is unclear" is better than "This stereo(立体音响) does not work"
The store manager may advise the consumer to write to the producer. If so, the consumer should do this, stating the complaint as politely and as firmly as possible. But if a polite complaint does not achieve the expected result, the consumer can go a step further. He or she can threaten(恐吓) to take the seller to court or report the seller to a public organization responsible for protecting consumers' rights.
64.When a consumer finds what he bougut has a fault in it, he should first ______.
A. complain personally to the manager
B. show something provable in written form to the store
C. threaten to take the matter to court
D. write a firm letter of complaint to the store
65.The most effective complaint about what was bought can be made by _______.

C. asking politely to change it
D. explaining exactly what is wrong with it
66.The passage tells us __________.
A. how to make the complaint have a good effect

C. how to avoid buying something wrong
D. how to deal with complaints from consumers
67.According to the passage, the last way a consumer has to use is _______.

C. to warn the seller that he or she will turn to the court or a consumers' organization for help

BERLIN-Germany will admit up to 20,000 foreign high-tech workers, under a plan announced on May 31. Chancellor(总理)Gerhard Schroeder sees this as a way to keep the country from falling behind in information technology.
The plan for these so-called "green cards", not unlike the US work permit system, came in answer to industry complaints that there were not enough qualified workers to fill positions.
Workers who come to Germany under the new rules, effective from August, will be given a five-year work permit after proving they have completed studies in a related field, or can pionase to make at least 100,000 marks(US$48,000y in yearly salary.
Family members are also allowed to receive work permits. "There is strong competition in the rest of the world for these people," Schroeder said, mentioning not only the United States but also Britain and France. "Germany would be making a mistake if it didn't take part in this competition."
He said employers have already offered 11,000 jobs through a "green card hot line" and some 4,700 applicants (people who ask for a position) have e-matled information requests.
The Chancellor also said that the number of workers and the time limit of their stay may be exierided, impossible under current German law.
Allowing the workers to stay longer means they could finally become citizens. Since the beginning of the year, foreigners who have lived in the country for eight years can ask to be naturalized (使加入国籍).
68.From the first paragraph we know that ________.
A. Germany is a less-developed country

One possible version:
Train Travel arid Air Travel

Air travel has two advantages over train travel. First, it can save much time We can fly from Qingdao to Guangzhou just in two hours, but by train we have to spend 58 hours or more. Second, air travel is more comfortable because the plane flies so smoothly that we can rest well during the trip, while the train is crowded sometimes and passengers have to sit a long time, which makes them tired. But train travel also has its own advantages. For example, traveling by train costs only 250 yuan while traveling by air will take us 900 yuan. Besides this, through the train's window, we can enjoy the view of many big cities, such as Jinan, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, etc. So I think different people like different ways of traveling.
