B

When I was five, my biological father killed himself. It left me feeling as though I’d done something         wrong; that if I had been better somehow, maybe he’d stayed around.

My mother remarried shortly after that, and this man was my dad until I was nineteen. I called him dad and used his name all through school. But ,when he and my mother ended their marriage he just walked away. Once again, I wondered what was wrong with me that I couldn’t keep a father.

My mother remarried again, and Bob was wonderful, kind man. I was twenty now and no longer living at home, but I felt a great love and attachment for him.

A few years later my mother was diagnosed(诊断) with cancer and was not given long to live. Shortly before she died, Bob came over to my house alone one day. We talked about a lot of things, and then he told me that h’d always be there for me, even after Mother was gone. Then he asked if he could adopt(收养) me.

I could hardly believe my ears. Tears streamed down my face. He wanted me—me! This man had no obligation to me, but he was reaching out from his heart, and I accepted. During the adoption proceedings(程序), the judge explained all the undesirable duties of his profession and then with a tear in his eyes, thanked us for brightening his day as he pronounced us father and daughter .I was twenty-five, but I was his little girl.

Three short years later, Bob, too, was diagnosed with cancer and was gone within the year. At first I was hurt and angry at God for taking this father away too. But eventually the love and acceptance that I felt from Dad came through again, and I became, once more, thankful for the years we had.

On Father’s Day I always consider what I’ve learned. I’ve learned that it is not dependent on biology or even on raising a child. Fatherhood is a matter of the heart. Bob’s gift from the heart will warm my soul for ever.

The amount of stress(压力) we face—and how we handle it—has a strong effect on our health. Early signs of unsolved stress include sleeplessness, headaches, irritability, and tiredness. Poorly-managed over a long period, stress can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure, ulcers, and heart disease.

The key to preventing problems is not to avoid stress entirely (which isn’t possible anyway)but to         control it and know your limits. This means recognizing the negative(负面)stress in your life and learning how to manage it .

One proven way to deal with stress is regular physical activity. Dr. William Rose put it nicely in the book Life and Health when he wrote, “Deliberate and proper exercise enable physical relaxation.”

Beyond physical activity, there are other ways to deal with stress and demands of work and family duties. Here are a few suggestions:

Set priorities(优先), don’t rush. You can be active and busy without being hurried. At work and at home, manage to determine priorities, then try to finish things successfully in both a scientific way and a reasonable length of time.

Keep a diary. Stress can come from not being sure what you want. A diary is a wonderful tool for self- discovery; when you record your feelings and experiences—the good as well as the bad—you can start to see      important patterns appear. You don’t have to write in your diary every day, but you should reread it               regularly.

Talk to others. Problems can seem worse when you keep them to yourself. Make enough time to        deepen friendships, and share your worries with your trusted friend or relative. This can help you see your situation in a new light, which may be the first step toward a constructive solution. If your problems seem to        be getting out of hand, don’t hesitate to seek a specialist.

Finally, listen to your body. It will tell you when you are pushing too hard. When warning signs like sleeplessness or tiredness appear, slow down. Have some fun!Indulge yourself. Enjoy life’s little pleasures.

40.We can know from the first paragraph that .

A. listen to your body

Michael, a young Israeli with a long, unshaven beard and thick glasses buried his nose in a pile of maps and travel books. A person, like commodity(goods), needs packing. But going too far is completely undesirable. A little exaggeration(夸张), however, does no harm when it shows the person’s unequaled qualities to their advantage. To show personal attractiveness in a natural way, it is important for one to have a clear knowledge of oneself. A master packer knows how to mix art with nature without any suggestions of embellishment(雕琢), so that the person so packed is no commodity but a human being, lively and lovely.

A young person ,especially a female, shining with beauty and full of life, has all the favor given by God. Any attempt to make up would be self-deafting. Youth, however, comes and goes in a moment..

Packing for the middle-aged is mainly to hide lines formed over a long period ploughed by time. If you are still excited and cheerful enough to keep self-confidence and seek pioneering work, you are unequaled for natural qualities, and your attractiveness and grace will remain.

Elderly people are beautiful if their river of life has been, through plains, mountains and jungles, running its course as it should. You have really lived your life which now arrives at a self-satisfied stage of calmness indifferent to famousness or wealth. There is no need to turn to hair-dyeing—the snow-capped mountain is itself a beautiful scene of wonderland Let your looks change from young to old in step with the natural aging course so as to keep in harmony(和谐)with nature, for harmony itself is beauty, while the other way round will only end in unpleasantness. To be in the elder’s company is like reading a thick book of good quality that attracts one so much as to be unwilling to part with.

As long as one finds where one stands, one knows how to pack oneself, just as a commodity sets up its name on a firm base by means of the right packing.

49.What is the purpose of the text?

A. To tell us how to make up.

B. To make the reader realize the importance of packaging.

C. To persuade the reader that packing should follow an ageing course.

D. To sell the goods for packing

50.Which of the following is best supported by the text?

A. People should be packed at all ages.

B. People should be packed in a special way.

C. Elderly people also care about packing.

D. Proper packing makes people attractive.

51.In the writer’s opinion, if you are a girl, .

A. you should change the color of your hair from black to golden yellow

B. you must pack yourself in order to show your beauty

C. your beauty can easily be seen

D. you must be a beauty
