第二部分:阅读理解(共25小题。第一节每小题2分,第二节每小题1分,满分45分)
第一节 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中, 选出最佳选项。
A
The boy was 1.7 meters tall when he just started his third year at primary school. As his feet had outgrown even Father’s shoes, his parents had to look up and down the street for size-46 shoes. At 16, he shot to a height of 2.2 meters, and no store or market in the whole of China had stock of size-53 shoes for his big feet. The parents watched rather alarmingly their son shooting up wildly.
The young giant fell sorry for his distraught parents, who needed to take extra care of him for his food, clothing and traveling. Time and time again he expressed his “great aspiration” to his good friend, teammate and roommate Liu Wei, “I will do my best. Once I enter the Shanghai No.1 Team, I won’t have to worry about my shoes.”
That boy was Yao Ming.
Today’s Yao is a great basketball star. Back then, however, his dream was not championship, NBA, or stardom. He trained like mad, struggled hard, all for a pair of shoes that would fit his feet, merely to relieve his parents of their worry about his shoes. Such a simple goal may seem unimaginable for a star like Yao. Yet it was exactly this seemly simple dream that prompted Yao to achieve today’s glory. He earnestly and realistically sets the goal for every stage of his life and spares no effort to reach it, and to surpass (do or be better than) it.
It is not a difficult thing for anyone to set a goal. The tough part is to know how to pursue and reach it. Many people leave their great aspirations in blueprints forever. If we take those abandoned causes and goals along many people’s life journeys, we should remind ourselves of Yao Ming:travelers first need a fitting pair of shoes, and then take one firm step at a time towards their goals.
41. We learn from the story that __________________________________.
A. young Yao Ming was a boy without great goals
B. young Yao Ming was very tall and big for his age
C. Yao’s parents didn’t care about their boy
D. young Yao Ming knew he would become a world-famous star
42. What would be the best title for the text?
A. Yao’s Great Dream B. Great Aspiration
C. No Shoes for the Boy D. Dream for a pair of Shoes
43. By saying “many people leave their great aspirations in blueprints forever” in the last
paragraph, the writer wants to ___________________________.
A. criticize the people who have great aspirations
B. tell us never to set great goals
C. tell us that we should pay more attention to the process of realizing our goals
D. show that those who have small goals can succeed

Early in your adulthood, do you miss those good old days of innocence when we had no worry, no regret, but hope and blessing? Do you miss your childhood friends and the funny adventures you made together? Do you miss those who were once important in your life but then disappeared for ever, those who have been asleep in your memory but never really gone?
As time goes by, we grow older and older. Many of us may miss those ages of innocence more and more. While we experience happiness and joys, pains and sorrows as adults, those bold and naïve, happy and sad, nevertheless all beautiful days are well worth reviewing, for we need to derive not only pleasure from them but also the strength to go ahead. This simple but touching book will certainly serve this purpose. Stories in this book all talk about one theme --- beauty of childhood. In “Inside out”, you may be amused by the little trick Maggie played to fulfill her wish and you may be reminded how you once made a fool of those adults when you were at her age; “My Friend the Telephone Operator” will remind you of those people that once made a difference in your life or even changed its orbit, but now “sing in another world” for you; “The Day Mother Cried” and “Good-bye Kiss” separately showed the greatest love in the world---parental love, and you may reflect on the love you are receiving now and better cherish it.
Many other good articles and their messages are waiting for you to digest and appreciate. You may be laughing, sighing, or weeping while reading this book. But for sure you’ll be moved by it. Youth is always beautiful. Yesterday once more is impossible, but always owning a young heart is important. Through this book you’ll get a chance to return to the simple happy but confused youth. It will also bring you back to the long-forgotten warmth and comfort. But this is not enough. Most important of all, after giving deep thought to the book, in the end you may suddenly realize that “today” will also be beautiful in the eyes of “tomorrow”, as “yesterday” in the eyes of “today”, which is always the truth.
44. The writer wrote this article in order to ___________________.
A. sell a book B. criticize a book C. praise a book D. recommend a book
45. What do you think the writer wish us to learn from the book?
A. We should value our childhood friends as well as our parents.
B. There will always be flowers awaiting you in the future.
C. We’d better cherish every moment of the present and make every day in our life as beautiful
as possible.
D. If we try, yesterday once more is possible.
46. What do you think is the best title of the book the writer mentioned?

Let’s suppose that you are standing on the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building in New York City. In your hand you are holding a precious. Ming Dynasty vase. As part of an experiment, you let the vase slip from your hand.
Scientists and researchers stationed at the 81st floor of the Empire State Building wait a few moments, and then report their findings: the vase has cleared their research post and is rushing totally uninjured toward the lower floors. “There is not,” they report, “ a single reason to be concerned. The vase is safe. Its fall through space has left the vase undamaged.”
Recently a similar junk science report has come from the industry group. Wireless Technology Research teams evaluated a short term, three-year study examining the cancer rate of cell phone users. Their conclusion was stated by spokesman Joshua Muscat: “We feel confident that the results reflect that cell phones don’t seem to cause brain cancer.”
For most types of cancer, the disease is a phenomenon that occurs after a period of bodily attack for at least four to fifteen years. When an important study is shortened to a period of only three years, its accuracy is severely affected. The thinking consumer should be left with as many questions as reassurances after such an announcement. If an industry shortens a research time to such a meaningless time period, what is that indicating about their overall credibility?
We now know the role that cigarette smoking plays in terms of lung cancer, rheumatoid arthritis(类风湿性关节炎)and other health problems. The tobacco industry used its influence in the media to “buy” time on news reports. For decades, during the sixties and seventies, industry-sponsored science studies “proved” that cigarette smoking was a healthy activity. Only after the US Congress banned tobacco-paid advertisements was the truth able to appear.
When I address concerns about the cell phone situation, I am asked to cite an article offering solid proof as to the end for caution. So I will end this article with an article written by Scirmacher, from “Bioelectromagnetics Society, Volume 21, No 5, 2000.” which discusses the blood brain barrier disruption of test animals when exposed to the EM radiation of cell phone antennae.
48. The writer introduces an imaginary experiment in the first two paragraphs to ____________.
A. imply that science needs lots of experiments
B. show that the vase is of good quality
C. prove that some objects can fall through space safely
D. suggest that scientific conclusions shouldn’t be reached too quickly
49. What does the underlined word “industry-sponsored” probably mean in paragraph five?
A. industry-supported B. industry-owned
C. industry-bought D. industry-run

A. Wireless Technology Research conducted the 3-year research.
B. Scirmacher quite agreed with the opinions expressed by Joshua Muscat.
C. It’s against the law to show tobacco-paid advertisements on TV in the US.
D. Science reports are not always loyal to the truth.
51. Which of the following will the writer of the passage agree to?
A. Cell phones should be forbidden in modern society.
B. There’s not relationship between cell phones and brain cancer.
C. Scientists should only accept research fund from the government.
D. Experiments should be scientific to examine the influence of cell phones,
52. The writer uses the quotation in the last paragraph to ______________.
A. show that cell phones do no harm to humans
B. show his concern about people’s health
C. show his concern about cell phones’ influence on people’s health
D. show cell phones do cause cancer

As is true in all cultures, Americans first hear music in the context of family life. Much of that music comes from the records on the family radio or television, and this “canned” music is especially important in developing children’s musical taste. People often say they were very strongly influenced by the kind of music they heard before they were old enough to have their own records or choose the station on the family radio. There is usually some live music in the family as well. Many mothers and grandmothers sing lullabies, for example. These can be important since in America, as else where, lullabies not only lull a baby to sleep but promise, praise and teach cultural values. Sometimes lullabies are the only songs in a foreign language that American children with strong ethnic backgrounds hear, since people often fall back on old, familiar languages for intimate songs.
Another important family context is the automobile, where families learn songs and has become one of the basic centers of Family experience, and it is one of the important places where the family gathers for an extended period of time without outside disturbance. The family used to have to choose between making their own music in the car or being force -- fed by the radio, but the recent invention of automobile cassette recorders and eight -- track play back machines allows a family to have more control over what they hears when they drive.
53. The music children first hear is important in ________________.
A. shaping their lives and dislikes in music B. learning language
C. developing their talent in music
D. maintaining their strong ethnic backgrounds

C. enjoy music without being disturbed outsides
D. have another place to get together

The Advantages and disadvantages of Space Travel
There are several advantages of space travel. First of all, it could provide man with new places to live in and new sources of energy. In addition, space travel helps people understand the universe better. Also space travel research does good to other research fields.
However, space travel also has some disadvantages. It uses up too much money which could be spent in other ways. What’s more, the idea of man living on other planets is unrealistic. Space travel could be dangerous, too.
In a word, though there are the disadvantages, I think space travel is a good thing. It is important for man to explore and learn about the universe.
