Seven Chinese who were kept in Iraq were freed late Monday night, a Chinese spokesman said on Tuesday.
The seven Chinese were taken by Iraqi soldiers in Fallujah, west of Baghdad on Sunday after they entered Iraq through Jordan.
They were all workers from Fujian Province. Hu Jintao instructed the head of the future Chinese Embassy(大使馆) in Baghdad to do everything they could to make them free. The Embassy then called an Iraqi minister (大臣) to make sure of the ID of the Chinese and the exact place they were kept in.
At the same time some Chinese experts guessed that perhaps the Iraqi soldiers had taken the Chinese by mistake. And later they were told it was true. They did so just because they had mistaken the Chinese for Japanese or South Koreans.
It' s said some Japanese and South Koreans were also taken away and kept in Iraq. Japan and South Korea had sent soldiers to Iraq. Iraq warned that it would kill the three Japanese unless Japan called back its soldiers.
