Nearly all our food comes from the soil. Some of us eat meat, of course, but animals live on plants. If there were no plants, we would have no animals and no meat. So the soil is very necessary for life. The top of the ground is usually covered with grass or other plants. There may be dead leaves and dead plants on the grass. The waste matter from animals also falls on it.

All soil needs food. If we do not give it any, the plants will be weak. Farmers found that animals’ waste is the best food for the soil, but chemical fertilizers (化肥) are also very useful. The same crop (庄稼) should not be grown in the same place every year; it’s better to have a different crop. A change of crop and the use of a good fertilizer will keep the land good.

        A. Chemical fertilizers. B. Plants and grass.

        C. Animals’ waste. D. Different crops.

( )5. Why do we often grow a different crop in the same place every year?

        A. Because we can keep the soil rich this way.

B. Because we don’t have enough land.

        C. Because we want to have a different food.

D. Because we do this as a habit (习惯).

(B)

Have you ever been ill? When you are ill, you must be unhappy because your body becomes hot, and there are pains all over your body. You don’t want to work, you stay in bed, feeling very sad.

Germs are not only found in dirty water. They are found in air and dust. If you cut your fingers, if some of the dust from the floor goes into the cut(割裂处), some of the germs would go into your finger. Most children with healthy appetites(食欲)are ready to eat almost anything that is offered to them .A child often likes food unless it is badly cooked .The way a meal is cooked and served is most important. And an attractively served meal will often improve a child’s appetite. Never ask a child whether he likes or dislikes a food. Never discuss likes and dislikes in front of him or allow anybody else to do so .If the father says that he hates fat meat or the mother refuses some vegetables in the child’s hearing, he may copy this action.

Parents should agree to the fact that he likes everything and he probably will. At meal times, it is a good idea to give a child a small part and let him come back for a second helping rather than give him as much as he may eat all at once .Do not talk too much to the child during meal times, but let him get on with his food; and do not allow him to leave the table at once after a meal, or he will soon learn to eat his food hurriedly so he can hurry back to the toys in his room. On no condition(任何情况下都不)must a child be coaxed(哄骗)or made to eat .

Dear Editor,

I’m writing to tell you about a discussion we’ve had about whether students of Junior 3 should take physical exercise 55 percent of the students think we should take exercise every day, such as doing morning exercises, playing table tennis and playing basketball, but it shouldn’t take too much time. Exercise builds up our bodies and reduces diseases. Sports let our brains have a rest so that our revision will be more effective.

On the other hand, 45 percent of the students believe taking exercise is a waste of time and tiring. After having sports, we are much too excited to pay attention to our lessons in a short time. It’s also possible that students may get hurt in sports.

I’m looking forward to your reply.

                      Yours sincerely,
