Researchers in London and Bristol have found that men are particularly likely to yield to depression if their partners are also depressed .
The finding highlights the importance of paying aftention to the partners of depressed mothers , as young children themselves are vulnerable (容易受伤的) to social problems if both parents are depressed .
Researchers in London and at the University of Bristol launched their study to investigate whether family structure affects the likelihoodin men around the time their child is born . They looked at men from traditional families , men with children from a previous relationship , men whose partners had children by a former partner , and men who were not living with their partners .
All 7,018 participants filled out a questionnaire on depression , and answered questions about their age , education level and employment status . Details about the quality of their relationships with their partners , networks of friends and preveous life events were also recorded.
About 3.5percent of the men and 13 percent of their partners suffered depression around the time their child was born .While men in step-families or who were not living with their parters were twice as likely to get depressed as those in traditional families , this could be explained by other factors that are more common in nontraditional families , such as poor education and relationship conflicts .
Even allowing for all these factors , however , the partners of women who were suffering from perinatal (围产期的) depression were significantly more likely to become depressed themselves , the researchers report in an American journal .Ten percent of women who were depressed had depressed partners . For the healthy women , the figure was only 2.6 percent .
Precious research suggests that families with two depressed parents may need special attention . A researcher itn Atlanta has found that primary school children with two troubled parents have difficulty relating to their peers (同伴). “It’s extremely important to look at the whole family .” she says .
59. What can we conclude from paragraphs one and two of this passage ?

D.to see whether it is true that behind every depressed man there is a depressed woman .

A.Men from traditional families

The opinion of many engineers is that the architects that designed the New Yorld Trade Center Twin Towers did a good job in designing the buildings . The buildings were safe from the danger envisioned at the time . Indeed , they were designed to withestand the force of aircraft that might crash into them . They were not , howerer , designed to withstand the effects of the very high temperatures produced by the ignition of tons of aviation (航空) fuel carried by the aircraft .
Steel lightly covered with concrete is the main struvtural component of the towers and steel loses a lot of structural strength whe heated to 1,100 degrees Centigrade and beyond , as it was . To protect the steel the towers towers beams (柱梁) were coated with a few centimeters of concrete . That insulation was to provide good structural state for at least 1 hour of fire . The towers met that test .The south tower lasted 62 minutes . The north , 103 minutes . Tragedy followed when not all could escape before the collapse .
Most experts agree that the Twin Towers were very well designed . Many also agree that the people planning the attacks were very knowledgeable and aimed the aircraft at a height that would effect the most damage . The aircraft crash and the resulting fuel fed fires were aimed at about the 90th floor . That was just high enough to insure that the upper floors would weaken with the heat and crack down , dropping into the remaining part of the building .
The mass of the falling top floors created such a falling load that some experts extimate it exceeded by 5 to 10 times normal beaing loads. The effect was like a giant hammer , each floor contributing more weight to be born by the next floor down .
Were the Trade Towers well designed ? Engineers say yes . But , the public refers to the belief that architects will never again desing a tall building without considering the effects of terrorist atatcks of all potential kinds . That not only includes the ability of the structure to withstand attack but the means to allow all the people in the buildings to escape in time to survive .
64. According to the article , those who designed the tower could have done better if _______.
A.the tower lasted longer after being attacked
B.the tower hold stable until all of the people there managed to escape
C.the tower can not be affected by such attacks
D.they considered more about the effects of the very high temperatures and make duel changes in the structure
65. As we know from the 3 nd paragraph , many people believe that _________.
A.the attack was led by Bin Laden
B.those who directed the attack were better engineers than those who built the towers
C.those who directed the attack know quite a lot about the towers
D. the attack was made spontaneously
66. The part of the building below 90 th floor _________ .
A.remained where they were
B.cracked down because of the burning
C.was hammered down by the falling upper part

A.were not well-designed

D.were out of consideration when we talk about engineering later

It is 3 am. Everything on the university campus seems ghonstlike in the quiet , misty darkness ------everything except the computer center . Here , twenty students rumpled and bleary –eyed , sit transfixed at their console (操纵台), tapping away on the terminal keys . With eyes glued to the video screen , they tap on for hours . For the rest of the world , it might be the middle of the night , but here time does not exist . This is a world unto itself . These young computer “hackers ”are pursuing a kind of compulsion , a drive so consuming it overshadows nearly every other part of their lives and forms the focal point of their existence . They are compulsive computer programmers . Some of these students have been at the console for thirty hours or more without a break for meals or sleep . Some have fallen asleep on sofas and lounge chairs in the computer center , trying to catch a few winks but loather (不喜欢) to get too far away from their beloved machines .
Most of these students don’t have to the computer center in the middle of the night . They aren’t working on assignments . They are there beacause they want to be ------ they are irresistibly drawn there .
And they are not alone . There are “hackers” at computer all across the country . In their extreme form , they focus on nothing else .They flunk out of school and lose contact with friends ; they might have difficulty finding jobs , choosing instead to wander from one computer center to another .They may even forgo (放弃) personal hygiene .
“I remember one hacker . We literally had to carry him off his chair to feed him and put him to sleep . We really feared for his health ,” says a computer science professor at MIT .
Computer science teachers are now more aware of the implications of this “hacker phenomenon” and are on the lookout for potential hackers and cases of computer addiction that are already severe . They know that the case of the hackers is ont just the story of one person’s relationship with a machine .It is the story of a society’s relationship to the so-called thinking machines , which are becoming almost ubiquitous (普通存在的).
69. Which of the following may be amost appropriate title for the passage ?
A.Computer Programmers
B.Computer-A New Type of Electronic Toys

B.for them , life would be miserable without computers
C.they can stay with the computer at the center for nearly three days on end
D.many of them are top students majoring in computer programming
71. The reader can infer that ________ .
A.university computer centers are expecteng outstanding programmers from the students
B.university computer centers are not just open to university students
C.the “hacker phenomenon” exists only in universities
D.the university should not be blamed for the “hacker phenomenon”

In democratic countries any efforts to restrict the freedom of the Press are rightly condemned (遣
责) . However ,this freedom easily be abused . Stories about people often attract far more public attention than political events . Though we may enjoy reading about the lives of others , it is extremely doubtful whether we would equally enjoy reading about ourselves . Acting on the contention that facts are sacred , reporters can cause untold suffering go individuals by publishing details about their private lives .
The story of a poor family that acquired fame and fortune overnight , dramatically illustrates the power of the press . They were expecting thetr sixth child and were faced weth even more pressing economic problems .If they had only had one more child , the fact would have passed unnoticed . But they suddenly became the parents of quintuplets , four girls and a boy , and event which radically changed their lives . The day after the birth of the five children , an aero-plane arrived in Aberdeen bringing sixty reporters and photographers .The news was of national importance , for the poor couple had become the pparents of the only quintuplets in America .
The rise to fame was swift .Television cameras and newspapers carried the news to everyone in the country . Newspapers and magazines offered the family huge sums for the exchusive rights to publish stories and photographs . Gifts poured in not only from unknown people , but from baby food and soap manufacturers who wished to advertise their products . The old farmhouse the family lived in was to be replaced by a new $ 100,000 home . Reporters kept pressing for interviews so lawyers had to be employed to act as spokesmen for the family at press conferences (记者招待会) . The event brought serious changes to the town itself . Plans were announced to build a huge new highway , as Aberdeenwas now likely to attract thousands of tourists . Signposts erected on the outskirts(郊区) of the town directed tourists not to Aberdeen , but to “Quint-City USA”. The local authorities discussed the possibility of erecting a “quint museum” to satisfy the curiosity of the public and to protect the family from inquisitive tourists.
